GHA trounced City rivals Hillhead / Jordanhill 51-6 in their first game of the season at Braidholm.

The home side played some very attractive rugby, keeping the ball in hand between forwards and backs, resulting in some spectacular tries. The visitors started brightly but GHA soon took control with winger Rory Watson scoring the first try. James Noonan converted then added two further penalties as the Southsiders went into a 13-6 half-time lead.

The second half was one-way traffic as GHA added two further scores within five minutes of the restart. Lock Andy Williamson made a strong break down the middle to set up full-back Andy Rushforth to run clear under the posts. Then centre Iain Kennedy made a similar break and this time Niall Cassie rounded off the move. Moments later a drive ended with hooker Des Ziolo diving over.

A dazzlingly mazy run by centre Alan Bulloch was only halted by a tap tackle but it wasn’t long before Kennedy was freed by Watson for another touchdown. Cassie completed his tat-trick, leaving Noonan with a record of five out of seven conversions.
