GHA 69, Hillhead/Jordanhill 10

A rampant performance by GHA secured a big win over city rivals Hillhead/Jordanhill whose heart and tenacity in defence was not enough to cope with the speed and slickness of the GHA attack. The platform for this performance was set early on when the GHA scrum marched the visitors up the field. The lineout, also, provided a solid platform for GHA to build from. Hillhead for their part had their moments, scoring a penalty after 15 minutes and a well taken try with 5 to go. Outwith that though it was one way traffic as GHA chased the crucial win and then kicked on to build a convincing score.

In all there were 11 tries scored by the home side – Alan Auld (3), Niall Cassie (2), Rangi Jericevich, Andrew Boag, Andrew Henderson, Donald Malcolm, Adam Barnett and a Penalty try. Andrew Goudie collected 14 points with 7 conversions.

This week GHA travel to Dundee HSFP in the final game of the season knowing that a win will secure them a place in the coveted play-off for an opportunity of promotion. Dundee secured an impressive bonus point victory at home to Jed Forest last weekend and securing the required 4 points will be a formidable challenge.  Meanwhile, Stewart’s Melville, GHA’s rivals for the Play Off spot, will visit Peebles hoping to take advantage of any GHA slip up – it is hard to imagine a tenser and more exciting finale to the season. Kick Off at Mayfield will be 3pm.
