It was with sadness, tinged with a sense of relief, that we learned that Ian had died in his sleep at 5 a.m., Friday 3rd June.

In the past few years, Ian has been in and out of various hospitals and has suffered much more than many of us could have borne. Ian’s attitude has been an example to us all and for that we should be grateful.

I first met Ian in Aberdeen in the early ’60’s, when his father was a well respected referee, but I became a friend, when Ian joined us at Clarkston Rugby Club. Ian served on various committees and is a past President of the Club and Director of the Club’s limited company. However, Ian’s greatest achievement and one of which he was extremely proud, was probably being the Club’s leading try scorer in one memorable year.

Ian, we will miss your cheerful banter and mischievousness but you will certainly not be forgotten.

Ian’s funeral will be held in the Blantyre Crematorium on Thursday 9th June at 12.30. The family have requested no black ties.
