On a bright, sunny morning a very strong field of 16 starters met at Largs Golf Club for the traditional pre-match refreshments, this the first outing of the year being played for “The Martin Hilley Trophy”. The 4 four-ball groups headed off in front of the host club’s “Past Captains” event and some superb golf was on show right from the first tee-shot.
With the course in fabulous condition, it produced some “interesting” golf, shall we say and some spectacular golf shots….let’s just leave it at that!
On our return to the clubhouse we were supplied with a superb two-course meal and “refreshments” …highly recommended if you are ever playing Largs in future!
Once our Secretary Alan Thomson had collated the scorecards, it fell to Captain Zander McIlwham to present the imposing “Martin Hilley Trophy” to our worthy winner and lowest handicapper, Andy Dougan who returned a magnificent gross score of 77 (including two 6s) to give him 35 stableford points, a fine win on a fine course on a fine day to give him his second Society win on the tour …. well done Andy!
Second, third and fourth places were decided on countback as they were tied on 33 points, which resulted in Robin Mair, Jeff McGhee and Gordon McMorris being awarded those places respectively…. Well done chaps!
