Any hopes Edinburgh University had of causing an upset, disappeared after less than two minutes when Ross West crossed the line to put GHA ahead.
Although Ross King kept the students in the hunt with a drop goal, a Graham Harkness try, converted by Nicky Barrett increased the visitors lead before King added a penalty to make it 12-6 at the break.
Shortly after the restart Rory Watson touched down and Barrett added the goal points, but in a disappointing half, it took more than half an hour for GHA to register the clinching score when West scored his second try to make it 24-6.
